Teaching the Other's Self: The writer's first reader

Hi all,

This article seems to be only for the teacher who wants to be an effective teacher of writing. The teacher should be a helper for all students but shouldn't tell them all what to do -- teach them as LESS as possible, let them experience their writting.

A writer must have the self and the other self. These two selves collaborate in a writing process . A teacher can help students being beginners of writing to find their other self by pretending to be other self of the students -- being their (the writer's) first reader and giving them responses -- so they can improve thier text or do next draft to evolve their writing.

That means this article is also for all students who want to be good writers. The students have to learn from the teacher how s/he can be their other self (the other self). So the students can get more confidence to write with no teacher beside them.

Murry said, "The teacher listens, knowing that the effective teacher must teach where the student is, not where the teacher wishes the student was..." (p. 111) I really like and agree with Murry. And I think you all agree with me too. (^_^)

I would like to say that I and you, my friends, are very lucky that we have a good teacher as Ajan Karnchanok. Although she gives us a lot of assignments, I still love her as a great teacher because I believe that every assignments are good for me and you all.

Thank you all
Have a great day :)

Understanding Composing

I feel it's difficult for me. This paper say about the writing by "felt sense". I don't know how I explain. I like this sentence "When writers are given a topic, the topic itself evokes a felt sense in them. This topic calls forth images, words, ideas, and vague fuzzy feelings that are anchored in the writer's body." (p. 101)

The people can write the stories, it's up to experience. If the writers have many experiences so they can many the write more than the other.

Understanding Composing

The writing is linear process. It is plan, write and revise sequence, but the writing is a recursive process too. The recursive process of each person are different.

"To what do writers move back?" I think that the writers reread an essay.

"What exactly is being repeated?" It is my notion of the topic. When I pause, I will repeat key words.

"What recurs?" It is a back word movement in writing.

Those are my opinion.
When I write an essay. If I pause, I use a recursive process. I will reread my assay. Then my notion of the topic will be repeated. finally, My writing is continued by me using recursive process.

I understand composing a story

Dear all,

I don’t know exactly whether I am the last person writing and sending this weekly report to our blog or not. Because it’s almost midnight of Monday now. Sorry I almost forgot writing it as today is my very big day for me. I just woke up about twenty minutes before sitting in front of the computer screen and writing.

Remember, this is our fourth report since our class began, isn’t it? We have read past three issues about writing. I’m sure that all of us would have more understanding about writing process than before. Now we may identify ourselves what types of writers we want to be- blockers or non-blockers and we may also distinguish them. As for the conclusion of the text this week, I understood that the writer was showing us how writers developed their thought and then wrote their stories. The text given cited examples of twenty teachers who were taking a course in research and basic writing at New York University. During the course each was given a topic and was told to compose the story later and everyone had his or her own style to write the story.

I don’t want to go in to details about the style of composing stories of each participant but what I want to share with you is the way I always compose my stories. I would say that I don’t have a rigid rules about writing. To make sure that my story would not be complicated, one thing bears in my mind is that I would reread every sentence several times to check unity and coherence of the story. I think that today I would be enough to share my idea with all of you because it was a tiring long day for me. I need to take more rest as I think I have already got a cold. Hope everyone take care of yourselves because weather is changing all the times. And don’t forget to blanket your body. Good Night.

Thanks

Understanding Composing..

Dear all,

I understand that this paper is talk about writing process.

When I write something, the first thing that I do is I think about the topic, what I know about the topic, what I want to write and what I can write. While I am writing, I usually reread and think about the topic or a key word when I stuck. These can make my idea flow again.

I agree with this sentence, "Thus, the unit that is reread is not necessarily a syntactic one, but rather a semantic one as defined by the writer." (p.100)

And after I finish read this paper I found one sentence is the way I do.

"These writers focus on what they think others want them to write rather than looking to see what it is they want to write. As a result, they often ignore their felt sense and they do not establish a living connection between themselves and their topic." (p.104)

Sometime when I stuck even though I try to think about the topic and key word, I still stuck. I usually think what the readers want to read, they really want to read what I write now. So I can't go on.

“… writers need to know certain grammatical rules and evaluative criteria, but they also need to know how to call up a sense of their reader’s needs and expectation.” (p.105) I agree with this sentence, too.

Thank you,

Understanding Composing

Dear All,

I just read this article for the first time and I never comment the article before. After I read this article, I agree with the clause " The descriptions of the writing that follow are based on my own observations of the composing processes of many types of writers"(P.100) because whenever I would like to explain about something, I always consider about something that happen or observe from these situations. Moreover, it still has including the experience of the writer as well.

I agree with "the topic evokes a felt sense in them"(P. 101) because sometimes the topic means to forth images, words, ideas, and vague fuzzy feelings which these things made someone paying attention and thinking about some situations that might be occur and can pass on the experience throughout some words or letters.

Furthermore, I can learn various things from the process of writing. So, I think the most important thing for writing is the topic. Thus, when I have to write something I should understand about the topic clearly in order to lead the good achievement.

Finally, according to the process of writing I have to improve myself a lot of things such as interpreting, arrangement the data or even if making a summary in order to improve myself better than now.

Thank you

The "Composing"

4 me "The rules is not the rules"
"The plans is not the plans"
"The composing is not the composing, too" 555

I wonder how, I wonder why, Nid loves the writer?
Normally, this article's writer wrote for students who want to begin an ameture writer.
However, I agree that she (Sondra) understood feeling of most beginner.

I learned that when I have a topic to write. First of all, I must seperate it to
four of images, words, ideas and vague fuzzy feelings. Then, I pay attention and make
decision to write. After that, if I pause and feel fool, I will go back to the topic and repeat
four of keywords and think that what I want to do and keep writing again.

Finally, it seems to be a hardest word for "felt sense." Because of no one does it
better than professional writers that they have their "innervoice" or "inspiration."
Nevertheless, I can learn how to work with creativity only. That is the way to a beginner
writer for me. Or Composing can begin with basic process (the topic)?

Understanding Composing

This article read easy more the last week.
This article explain understanding in wrting and easy. For example sentense, "In recent years, many researchers including myself have questioned the traditional notion that writing is a linear process with a strict plan-write-revise sequence." (P.100) I agree.

The good writing should recursive. When I write work, I must look the topic and data flow out.
Topic evoke a felt sense.

"Is "felt sense" another term for what professional writers call their "inner voice" or their feeling of "inspiration"?"(P.102) I answer yes. I believe.

I think the felt sense or inspiration is thing in mind and relate about idea.

I have story to tell all I'm not sure that relate this article. I saw TV that reported who are alzheimer don't remember family but they feel like someone and don't like someone in family because they mind feel. This is mind system and brain system (inner mind). Doctor don't know why who are alzheimer can know and remember.

Thanks

Understanding Composing

Dear all,

After I read this article, I more understand about the process of writing and known myself when I need to write something.

Moreover, I agree with the writer everything that she informed us. She clearly explained and gave examples about process of writing. She explained about the term “felt sense” and how writing leads to discovery.

I agree with the sentence that “In the process of writing, we begin with what is inchoate and end with something that is tangible.”

Sometimes in my writing, I frequently need to go back to the topic, to reread and wait until I got more new idea, concepts or images

I really agree with the sentence that “writers need to know certain grammatical rules and evaluative criteria, but thay also need to know how to call up a sense of their reader’s needs and expectation.” as well.

Regards,
Jib
