A Vehicle for Cognitive Development

The writer said that free writing and nonstop writing are same. But I don't think so. I cannot make my mind to think that they are same. I think that when we do free writing, we can stop writing to think. Free writing -- we just don't have to focus on grammar, spelling, patttern, etc. But we can stop writing. Nonstop writing -- we write something for a time without pausing.

I sometimes agree with nonstop writing in case when I am writing about some personal things such as "I am writing about myself". But if I have a topic to write which I don't have much information about it, how I can do nonstop writing, how I can get ideas from nonstop writing. That means I have to stop to think about it. I cannot write anything else which is outside the topic in order to get some ideas. But free writing can help me.

Free writing helps to eliminate anxiety because what we write are never judged as a product written for other and to liberate the flow of thought and progression of ideas. The appropriate time to focus on coherence and correctness is after we have succeeded in getting our thoughts down on paper.

Apart from the free writing part, to organize our thoughts is an important part too. As the writer said, "Students have encoded and stored an incredible about of information, but they have not organized that information so that it is usable."

I believe that writing can get us ideas, especially free writing which is a vehicle for cognitive development.

"At best it is merely a warm-up exercise allowing students to loosen up their hands before getting into real writing" said the writer. (Could you tell me what the writer's name? Huff & Kline???)

Hi all,

I agree with Ajan Sripen that the background is too dark. But I still like black color. So I would like it to be lighter black or grey color.

Have a great day :)

Change the background ?

Dear all,

Good morning !
I agree with Aj.Sripen to change the background of the blog. I would like light colour.

Khun Adul's Comment

Class,
I'm posting this for Khun Adul, using the material he sent me via email. We may need to help teach him how to post his journal entries on-line in our class next Friday.
Karnchanoke

In the beginning part of the chapter 1 , the author try to convince the reader that writing is easier than they think . But in the real world , writing is real difficult thing . If we ask someone to compare between reading , listening , speaking and writing , the most answers which thing is most difficult are writing.

We don’t know anyone idea , are most people think like the author or not ? In my view , the author suggestion is not true .

Next , he said that we focused so much on the rules . But if we do not follow the rules , how can we write ? Like we are watching some game , such as American football or baseball . If we know little or nothing about the game rule , how can we have fun with this game . Think about Thai essays , that I can read and understand well . If I read some essay that contain many mistake or error , I will read only first two or three sentences and throw away . Rules are still necessary . I think the writing idea and the rules of writing are equally important thing .

On page 3 , he suggested that do not “ just write the way you talk ” and I agree with it . Because we can talk without thinking but we cannot write without thinking .

In fact , a writer must be a great reader as he suggested that people who read a lot may not necessarily be writers , but writes are always people who read a lot . And I strongly agree with him .

In summary , all of the author ideas are good suggestion ( can do in your language ) .

Yes we can. Just we do.

Dear all

Today, I go to pridi library at Thammasat University near Phrajan pier and see a interesting book.
In this book,Ther are many chapters. I would like to show you. For example

"The only way we can find peace in our own hearts, find the pathway that leads to liberation, is by changing ourselves, not by changing the world."

What do you thik?

What Is Writing and Why Do It?

Dear Teacher Karnchanok

After I finished to read the chapter 1 "what is writing and why do it?".
my feel is full.I know many things that are useful to study and to write english.

"You can use this book with or without a teacher in front of you. It is designed not to tell you what to do or how to write so much as to set things up so that you can discover for yourself how writing works."
I didn't agree with all those sentences. I need a teacher.
If I use only the book without a teacher, I can't discover for my self how writing works.

Writing process is like saying process. The first step of those is thinking but the second step is different. The second step is to change thinking process to communicte process.
Writing tranfers communication via a hand, while saying transfers via a mouth.
they are easy. Writing is easier than essay, for the processes of essay are too complex.

Finally, I think that Kanchanok's teaching follows by chapter 1 of Horton.
A pattern of teaching is like Horton's suggestion said at a log topic, page 8. Teacher Karnchanok tries to help the students finding out the best place to do exersice1 by themself.
My belife that overlearning is the best way to practice all english.

what is writing and why do it?

Dear Mrs. lovely Karnchanok

Now I understand that writing is not method to write only.
It is similar the direction of arts. We can say "The rules is not the rules."
If we concern about "the rules." We won't get a good writing.
We must have own thinking. Do it ourselves by creating.
Tell anyone what do you want to say. Write it what do you want to do.
Most of writing subjects are important for us because they can improve
our attitudes and understanding. Moreover, it is a part of skills development.
If you want to show your ideas of arts. Writing can help everyone.

What is Writing and Why Do It?

Dear Ajarn Karnchanoke

In the first part of writing, I'd like to say this is the first time that I post my idea on blog. Now, let's look at "What is Writing and Why Do It?" and purpose of writer.

To summaries. Firstly, the writer talking about errors and how to stay away from rules of grammar. Most of writer focused on the rules but forgot to talk about what the idea is: write in mind's way.

Secondly, writing-putting any idea down on paper while the writers go off and explore some idea that some small.

Thirdly, writing well has more to do with attitudes and understanding-understanding what process of writing. For example, my classmates room said that they understand, but they can't explain to me and so they can't figure out how to organize their idea. These are writer's problems.

Fourthly, find the book and read more of it, reading lots of things in lot of different places. Having a well_stock mind ensures that writer will always have a fund of ideas to write about.

Finally, Horton advices that no one can tell you exactly the way to create, kind of mind you have-linear except you.

For me, writing is science and art. There almost a hundred suggestion for writing in text but it's not advantage for anyone who will not do it. "Just do it in every day"

Thanks.

What is writing and why do it?

I'm good feel because i can read understand this paper. When i read finish,I have a power for the writing. He say that "Not grammar, but basic like what writing is and is for,how you get idea, and how and why each idea demands its own kind of organization, how ideas turn into essays, and, even more basic, about how your mind forme ideas in the first place." This paragraph help me. I try to get my idea to my teacher and my friend but now i don't have idea. Ok. I promise,if I have idea,I will write again.

ps. Thank you all teacher and my friend ka because if I don't have everybody,I think I cann't study the master degree.

What Is Writing and Why Do It?

In the past, I understand grammar important for writing until I read this topic. I cannot a good writing because I’m not sure grammar. I don’t know if I don’t read the topic of Ajan Karn. It makes me understand a little more. I agree but I think about an idea difficult for writing. Sometime I cannot start writing or fail writing because I don't get an idea. I believe grammar important same an idea. If I write grammar wrong, nobody will read my work. Every time I write my work in english. I must open an english grammar. If I don't worry grammar, I will write my work very well.

Thank you.

what is writing and why do it?

Dear Acharn Karnchanok,

Frankly speaking I don’t know exactly how to begin with my reaction after reading your first 11 –page text journal given last week. I also don’t know why I do have the sense like this. However, you are not necessary to worry about my feeling in which I think I will try to bring it under control next time.

As for your weekly assignment, I simply understand that the purpose of it is to stimulate and encourage students to practice their writings. I totally agree with it because the more I write , the better my English writing skills will improve. That’s the facts of nature.

If asked what do I get from reading your text? I have to say that I get a lot of useful information from it . This chapter started telling me on best how to write one story even though it did not force writers to pay much attention to the rules of unity and coherence. But in my opinion I don’t think so I think that these rules are still very necessary for every writer to write stories. They must think hard about the rules after they got the pretty well idea.

For me, I have always used the rules to apply for my writing as they could help connect story idea, body, and conclusion, enabling readers to be easier to read and understand. The rules have also taught me how to organise the story in the first place. Redundant information is not needed to put into the story as it will make readers feel bored and stories be longer than necessary.

In other points, I also agreed with the writer of this chapter that good writers must read a lot of books while people reading many books are not necessary to be writers. Reading will help open the writers’ perspectives so that they will have enough information to form their story ideas.

Acharn Karnchanok I like to end my reaction now as I can’t find more interesting issues in this chapter. Every writer must be in mind that the most important thing in writing is a story’s organisation .

How to Write an Essay: 10 Easy Steps
"Write something to suit yourself and many people will like it; write something to suit everybody and scarcely anyone will care for it".-- Jesse Stuart
Why is writing an essay so frustrating?
Learning how to write an essay can be a maddening, exasperating process, but it doesn't have to be. If you know the steps and understand what to do, writing can be easy and even fun.
This site, "How To Write an Essay: 10 Easy Steps," offers a ten-step process that teaches students how to write an essay. Links to the writing steps are found on the left, and additional writing resources are located across the top.
Brief Overview of the 10 Essay Writing Steps
Below are brief summaries of each of the ten steps to writing an essay. Select the links for more info on any particular step, or use the blue navigation bar on the left to proceed through the writing steps. How To Write an Essay can be viewed sequentially, as if going through ten sequential steps in an essay writing process, or can be explored by individual topic.
1. Research: Begin the essay writing process by researching your topic, making yourself an expert. Utilize the internet, the academic databases, and the library. Take notes and immerse yourself in the words of great thinkers.

2. Analysis: Now that you have a good knowledge base, start analyzing the arguments of the essays you're reading. Clearly define the claims, write out the reasons, the evidence. Look for weaknesses of logic, and also strengths. Learning how to write an essay begins by learning how to analyze essays written by others.

3. Brainstorming: Your essay will require insight of your own, genuine essay-writing brilliance. Ask yourself a dozen questions and answer them. Meditate with a pen in your hand. Take walks and think and think until you come up with original insights to write about.

4. Thesis: Pick your best idea and pin it down in a clear assertion that you can write your entire essay around. Your thesis is your main point, summed up in a concise sentence that lets the reader know where you're going, and why. It's practically impossible to write a good essay without a clear thesis.

5. Outline: Sketch out your essay before straightway writing it out. Use one-line sentences to describe paragraphs, and bullet points to describe what each paragraph will contain. Play with the essay's order. Map out the structure of your argument, and make sure each paragraph is unified.
6. Introduction: Now sit down and write the essay. The introduction should grab the reader's attention, set up the issue, and lead in to your thesis. Your intro is merely a buildup of the issue, a stage of bringing your reader into the essay's argument.
(Note: The title and first paragraph are probably the most important elements in your essay. This is an essay-writing point that doesn't always sink in within the context of the classroom. In the first paragraph you either hook the reader's interest or lose it. Of course your teacher, who's getting paid to teach you how to write an essay, will read the essay you've written regardless, but in the real world, readers make up their minds about whether or not to read your essay by glancing at the title alone.)

7. Paragraphs: Each individual paragraph should be focused on a single idea that supports your thesis. Begin paragraphs with topic sentences, support assertions with evidence, and expound your ideas in the clearest, most sensible way you can. Speak to your reader as if he or she were sitting in front of you. In other words, instead of writing the essay, try talking the essay.

8. Conclusion: Gracefully exit your essay by making a quick wrap-up sentence, and then end on some memorable thought, perhaps a quotation, or an interesting twist of logic, or some call to action. Is there something you want the reader to walk away and do? Let him or her know exactly what.

9. MLA Style: Format your essay according to the correct guidelines for citation. All borrowed ideas and quotations should be correctly cited in the body of your text, followed up with a Works Cited (references) page listing the details of your sources.

10. Language: You're not done writing your essay until you've polished your language by correcting the grammar, making sentences flow, incoporating rhythm, emphasis, adjusting the formality, giving it a level-headed tone, and making other intuitive edits. Proofread until it reads just how you want it to sound. Writing an essay can be tedious, but you don't want to bungle the hours of conceptual work you've put into writing your essay by leaving a few slippy misppallings and pourly wordedd phrazies..

You're done. Great job. Now move over Ernest Hemingway — a new writer is coming of age! (Of course Hemingway was a fiction writer, not an essay writer, but he probably knew how to write an essay just as well.)

P.S. Thank you for you

"What is writing and why do it?"

Hello Ajan Karnchanoke and my friends.

After I finished read "What is writing and why do it?" It makes me feel free and good with writing. The writer tells us that in the real world the writing is not necessary to fix with many rules. It depends on the ideas. He tells everyone can be a good writer. Nobody cannot write perfectly in one time. They must have first draft, second draft, third draft or any draft before they have the best works. This make me have initiative to write. I want to try to write and improve my writing skill.

Anyway, I like to write but I hate it when I don’t have any ideas to write.

Thank you to try to read my confuse post. @_@

What Is Writing and Why We Do It

Hello Ajan Karnchanoke and my friends :)First, I'd like to say that this is my first time to write a comment in a blog. I'm not sure if I do it correctly. If somebody found that I did correctly or not, please let me know by email me (maiher4@hotmail.com)"What Is Writing and Why We Do It" I read it all just now. How come??? I think it is a good writing(I'm not sure what it's called) for me because there are no too difficult words, it is easy to understand although I don't know all meaning of the words. That's why I could keep reading it until I finished it. And I like this writing because the writer doesn't give a stress to a reader as me who is afraid of writing. I like a sentence,"writing stores idaes for us". I really agree with it. We don't have to have ideas before we write. A writing will give you ideas. There is a sentence that confuses me. It is "the longest road is the shortest way home". Could anyone tell me what it means, please? :)I will wait for your answers. Thank you all. Bye for now
