Quantitative Research

Dear all,

I think a quantitative research is study that search for facts to find the quantitative conclusion.

Collecting data, the researchers emphasize quantitative data or data that measure as numbers. The researchers have to use related theories to refer as well.

Moreover, the researchers use statistical method for analysis the data in the quantitative research.

In my opinion, as for the methods that are use for collecting data in the quantitative research, there are various methods for example, survey questions, test, experiment, interview, observation

Quantitative Research:

A quantitative research is outsider study. The researchers can find the data, although they do not participant observation. Researchers use the tools measuring such things that they want to study.

The quantitative research focus statictical theories. They are used to be foundation to analyze data that being the numbers. Satistical theories are used in the the quantitative research; they are sample survey theory, theory of probability, theory of random variable, distribution theory, estimaion theory and theory of hypothesis testing.

The empirical references of the quantitative research are highly reliable, replicable and generalizable.

Quantitative Research

Dear all

I would say quantitative research relating to an amount that can be measured compare qualitative research. Quantitative research is all about quantifying relationships between variables which are things like weight, performance, time, treatment and any number of interviews. Questionaires are the importance and usually used incorporating mainly closed questions - questions with set responses.

In addition, after researching the informations, researchers used many softwares such as SPSS to improve their work.

Cohesion

I'm very sorry because i couldn't this comment. I try to read every paper of the teacher but i have problem.I cann't understand in your paper and the importace, I don't know what I will write to the blog?

This paper, I'm understand that the paper want to tell about "clear writing". He advise "...If we could directly map onto subjects and verbs the way characters and actions appear to us as we directly experience the world".(P.45)
I like this sentence,he said " The most important concern of a writer, then ,is not the individual topic of individual sentences, but the cumulative effect of the sequence of topics".(P.51)
The paper teach me that we need to decide which of our ideas is the newest, probably the most complex, and then imagine that complex idea at the end of its own sentence.

thanks

quantitative research

Dear class,
I'm sure that I am the first person to write in the blog this week as Acharn Karn said that she was not serious about this work, just write a few words. That's why I rush to do it .I'm also sure that many of you would remember what qualitative research is. This time it's different as we're talking about quantitatve research. Asked what this kind of research means and involves. It means the research conducted through gathering opinions from respondents by using two kinds of questionnaires- open-ended questions and close-ended questions. The data collected will be analysed through the use of statistical methods such as mean, mode, and SPSS programme, etc. Asked which methodology is more difficult, I don't know it depends on the topic and the scope of each research. Hope all have fun of reading it. You can share your opinions if you have something different from mine.

Cohesion and Coherence

Dear all

One way to achieve coherence of a paragraph is to use transitional words or phrases to show the relationship of the ideas, making the idesa move smoothly. When we describe events, we uauaslly arrange the ideas in chronological order, using time signals as transitions. Here are some transitional worlds and phrase indicating a sequence of events. They are followed by a comma.

In some cases, if the writer makes it clear enough that a new idea is being introduced, then, he may begin the idess right away. However, if you are not sure whether the reader will understand that another point is being introduced,

Cohesion and Coherence

I would to tell that I read scanning point. If I write wrong, I apologize all.
After I read this article finish, I understand that cohesion is writing matched subject and verb. The best sentense is clarity and independent of context. An example on page 45, It is a same meaning but writing is different. It shows that is clarity and cohesion about context. And many topic is interesting sush as method of flow information, Beginning of writing, etc.

I understant that coherence is abstract. It is principle or "rule that dictate the creation of every paragraph" (p.81). Coherence has five principles for suggestion in writing. And explanation is each principle. It is sequence in writing that are:
"1. What's all this about? (p.82)
2. What about the topics? (p.83)
3. How do new strings strart? (Theme) (p.87)
4. What's the point? (p.97)
5. Where's the point?" (p.99)

From example, I read to understand, some I don't understand. And I confuse example because it's very long.

coherence and cohesion

Dear all,
First of all, I would like to tell that the text given is very long and and is full of examples . Reading such a text is time-consuming and needs special attention to grab what the writer wanted to tell readers more or less. Before reading the text, I understand that the two words- cohesion and coherence- are quite close in term of meanings but after reading it my thought has changed.
As long as I understand, Williams, the writer, described cohesion as the connection or the relation between the story idea and the supportive sentence to form the whole story.
The writer said good cohesion must rely on clarity and context, management of the flow of information, beginning of good sentence, and finding topic of sentence. So good writers are necessary to apply these rules to their writing which would be easier to read.
Coherence on point of the writer's view means the connection and the relation between ideas, arguments and statements in the story. The writer yet told us that coherence is abstract: we cannot point to it as we can point to a noun( p.81). That's why he was giving us many examples to learn so that we will know whether each writing is incoherent or not.

Cohesion & Coherence

Hi all,

Firstly, I would like to say sorry for myself :) because I am ill. I haven't finished reading all of this article, Williams (1990), yet.

What I have read from this article make me get an idea that the author tries to tell readers know how to make writing flow by using cohesion and coherence -- he suggests the way to write and gives example. Also the author says that "Give your readers a familiar context to help them move from the more familiar to the less familiar, frim the known to the unknown" (p. 48). I like it.

What I know about cohesion and coherence, cohesion is about a hierarchy of words and lexical set that are disregardied by some writers and me too, and coherence is connection between topics to make writing flow, and also changing one topic to another without connection is unacceptable in English rhetoric.

I think cohesion and coherence are interesting for me now. I didn't consider about them when I wrote before. Also Ajan Karnchanoke told me that cohesion and coherence are very important in writing.

Thanks :)

Cohesion and Coherence:

Cohesion:
According to this sentenses, principles of cohesion that fuse seperate sentences into a whole discourse (p.48) I am understand what is the cohesion. I have a problem about the cohesion, becuase I got many teacher's comments about cohesion of my writing. when I wrote the drafts, my writing was not a whole discourse. I didn't use transitional metadiscourse and expressions, so my writing was separated into many parts. Some of them aren't related to one another.

Coherence:
After I red the artical, I interested a rule. It is that "Paragraph = Issue + Discussion."(p.92)
I think that the paragraph consist of the two parts. The firts part is the subject, and the second part is explanation. Two parts have the point related together.

Finally, I think that the cohesion and coherence is near. They are useful to writers writing the good drafts.
