The Journal : A Vehicle for Cognitive Develpment

I can summarize that Britton's research team have 3 funtions to develop the cognitive skills
1. Expressive - write for primarity for herself
2. Transactional - write for more gereral and public audience
3. Poetic - adopt somewhat of spectator role toward her own writing.
I impress the logic of expressive nonstop writing with Huff&Kline Theory because it's not focus on convention of standard usage and grammar. I can learn to improve my writing from false starts.

What is writing and why do it?

First, I don't believe that English writing is easy but Horton's book gives many ideas about writing for brginning writers. I hope to improve my basic writing by step because I don't think about grammar rules so much.

FREE FREE FREE WRITING

About the analyze of Britton’s team, they conclude that there are three major functions of language: expressive, transactional and poetic. They differentiated of three functions and analyzed that the expressive function is a primary vehicle. I agreed with them because the expressive is come from the first thinking and another reason is they research the writing from the children, I think it’s pure. For the expressive that Britton’s team concluded is not made explicit, it’s common to immediately understand in each situation. The function of language (of Britton’s team) is going from step by step, in the first step is expression – anyone can do and express themselves by use their language, the second step is transactional – must use high skill more than expression, we must use more reasonable for writing. The last step is poetic – we use art to mix with the language and use many skills of the language that we have learned, so we use deep thinking more than first and second step.

For the expressive or free writing, it’s good to use for us, I mean every students who just start to learn writing like me. I like your way that give us to write by forget everything. Thanks again, that made me feel good when I write. This paragraph is the answer that I agreed with the theory of Huff & Kline.

Thanks.

The Journal: A Vehicle of Cognitive Development

Oh, yes. McLuhan is great. How he knows what I have to face with when start writing? You will also be one of the others to know that problem after finish reading my assignment R1.1.

After practice of free writing in your previous class, I agree to the theory put under The Journal that nonstop writing helps thoughts and ideas flow if the coherence and the correctness is not focused. However, I'm not quite sure that it can help me tap information and organize them into categories and subcatagories. I hope there are further theories provided that can help my ideas well organized.

Additionally, I doubt that if one story can be successfully composed from my own idea plus others, it can be said that my cognition is developped?

The Journal : A vehicle for Cognitive Development

I must confess that I'm a little bit confuse. It would be pleased if you can describe it in class again. After reading the text, it can be concluded that the functions of language were derived from the relationship between the writer and the audience. The three major functions of language are as follow :
1. Expressive : The writer is writing primilary for himself
2. Transactional : The writer is writing more general and public
3. Poetic : The writer is writing with its internal patterns (word-play, parallelism)
I love the idea of "nonstop writing" I can write it as much as I like; no worry about grammar, punctuation, or spelling.

P.S. Please do me a favour. Can you please explain how to use a punctuation again ?

Thank you,
Tik
I agree with Huff & Kline because it is basic writing skills. Expressive nonstop or free writing is one of the practices to develop writing. We can write by don’t have grammar, punctuation, and spelling. We write with the idea. Expressive language is common understanding and revealing a writer. Nonstop writing has technical to make a wide variety of writing which is a vehicle to development. We have a stimulus to to make idea for writing such as songs, newspapers, lyrics, etc.

Huff & Kline

I want to confess that i hardly understand the text of Huff & Kline. I just know that the journal can improve cognitive development and there are three functions of language : expressive, transactional and poetic.
I guess that what you said to me in our class last week about free writing, ypu might take it from this text because you said aboutwriting is not product but it is a process which is similar to the idea appeared in this text. Even many educators try to get rid of this approach but I think it is an useful excercise for immature writer.
Even it is difficult to find something to write about, if we classify or manage information that Mcluhan believe we have a lot of it,we will find the issue for our writing.
