THE SMURF

There's a very sweet, very human story at the heart of The Smurf involving a young couple expecting a baby, and going through all the anxiety associated with that major life change. There's also a lot of slapstick, clichés galore, some cringe-worthy attempts to be modern and an inconsistent 3D presentation. Which aspect of the experience will stick with you after you've left the theater? It all depends on the viewer.
For the adults in the audience who actually remember the characters from the Saturday morning cartoon, The Smurfs gets by on a lot of nostalgia. The beginning of the film, set in a computer-generated Smurf Village, is a promising recreation of the original 2D animation. We soon meet Gargamel ) in his castle lair, making the usual plans to find and capture the Smurfs. This Gargamel is much funnier than the original, though. In fact, it's Gargamel, along with his cat Azrael (a live cat digitally enhanced), who provides much of the adult humor in the film.

Coming Soon! In Thailand 13 October
