When there was a royal funeral, a group of weeper usually palace women who had beautiful voice were asked do sing a melancholic song during the ceremony. Later, these women were allowed to wear long hair be cause it was used to play a part in the ceremony. On record, the last time to see the weeper was during the reign of King Rama v as the next king did not favor this kind of performance.
