Royal Temple
Royal temples are the temples which were built by the King's order and under the patronage of the king. While there are more than 40,000 temples in Thailand, less than 100 are royal temples. The Royal temples are classified into 3 groups: First Class (ชั้นเอก), Second class (ชั้นโท) and Third class (ชั้นตรี). respectively. In each class, they also will be divided into 4 categories (observed by the following name of the temple) as Ratchaworamahawiharn (ราชวรมหาวิหาร), Ratchaworawiharn (ราชวรวิหาร), Woramahawiharn(วรมหาวิหาร) and Worawiharn(วรวิหาร) respectively. So, the most valueable and importance temple will be classified in the the first class royal temple Ratchaworamahawiharn (ราชวรมหาวิหาร) category. This class comprises of only 6 temples as follows:
Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklaram (Wat Pho), Bangkok (วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร)
Wat Mahathat Yuwarajarangsarit, Bangkok (วัดมหาธาตุยุวราชรังสฤษดิ์ ราชวรมหาวิหาร)
Wat Suthat Thepwararam, Bangkok (วัดสุทัศน์เทพวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร)
Wat Arunratchawararam, Bangkok (วัดอรุณราชวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร)
Wat Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom (วัดพระปฐมเจดีย์ ราชวรมหาวิหาร)
Wat Phra Phutthabat, Saraburi (วัดพระพุทธบาท ราชวรมหาวิหาร)
