The Speaking Only Words of Kindness

Dear all,

During this month, I would like to recommend about the Buddhist fables to you because I think one of the shortest studies is reading/listening the fables (folktales, Buddhist fables or general fables, Aesop’s fables etc).  Besides enjoying, you have got knowledge/precept/proverb and save your special times, especially when you have a lot of works of each.

For this Buddhist fable, I would like to suggest  the story about “speaking” only words of kindness.  In Buddhism, speaking is consisted of in the thirty-eight highest blessings called “Gracious kindly speech; Pali: subhãsita vãcã).  I think no one dislikes kindly speech or creative speech because these speeches will make power/spirit or hope to others.  On the contrary, kindly speeches make listeners hopeless and obstruct their future’s growth.  I have an example from the Buddhist fable: Nandhiwisala...!!!

.....In the City of Taksasila, at the time of King Dhandara’s reign, a Brahmin domesticated a young calf in his home. He loved the calf as if it was his own son. He tended to it with good care. The Brahmin named the calf ‘Nandhiwisala’.
When years passed, Nandhiwisala had grown up into a sturdy and stalwart bull.  He always behaved obediently to the old Brahmin.  Although having given the Brahmin years of faithful service, he always found more ways to repay the Brahmin’s kindness out of the sense of obligation.
The old Brahmin set out to meet the millionaire at his manor and challenged him to bet on the ability of Nandhiwisala.
The old Brahmin was jeered and heckled as he and his bull emerged into the town Those affronted expression disheartened him almost unable to walk further.
At the sight of the 100 loaded carts tightened in rows, the old Brahmin suddenly almost felt faint.
When Nandhiwisala heard the old Brahmin called him in such the hurting-the-feelings way in front of the crowd, he felt completely crushed, unable to take on the task but standing still with the stream of tears running down both cheeks.
That evening, the old Brahmin laid in his bed.  His heart was over-whelmed by severe depression after losing face and the bet.
The old Brahmin so  travelled into town again.
Time passed; then come the trail.
Hearing the endearing words, Nandhiwisala became vigorous. He started pulling the 100 heavy carts.
With his tremendous energy, the 100 tightened carts wheeled forward from the spot.
All the on-looking city folks, upon seeing the old Brahmin smiling with confidence, raised a loud cheer.
Finally, the train of carts slowly and smoothly moved ahead amid the great cheer going up from the crowd.
All the city folks crowded around the old Brahmin and Nandhiwisala to congratulate and award them with money and gold including other material things. This story obviously demonstrated that the endearing and truthful words of the old Brahmin heartened his bull to complete the almost-impossible mission, receiving the victory that Nandhiwisala intended to requite an obligation to him.

The inspirations drawn from the story of this Jataka

....1. Even though the grateful are willing to pay back their debt of gratitude out of the sense of obligation, it is hard for them to tolerate the harsh and sarcastic speech. Thus, no matter in whatever circumstance, one should not speak roughly to others.
....2. Speaking the pleasant speech is graded 10 among the thirty-eight highest blessings enunciated by the Lord Buddha.
.... 3. Kind speech implies words that endear us to others. It is not confined only to the use of polite words but has wider implication as follows:
           1)  Words that arise out one’s kindness and cause the listener to appreciate one’s virtuous character.
           2)  Words of sincerity and good wishes expressed at the right place and time.
           3)  Words that are polite, easy on the ear, and meaningful.
           4)  Words that are encouraging to those who are in the process of developing characteristics of a true friend.
           5)  Words that are truthful and expressed at the right place and time.

Bedtime Milk - Sleep better with natural melatonin

Have you ever heard about "Bedtime Milk"?
Bedtime Milk is produced at night or in a dimly lit environment so it contains higher levels of melatonin than normal milk. Melatonin is a natural substance that controls the body clock and helps us sleep. It is a natural hormone that plays a central part in regulating sleep patterns and, in the medical world, is often used as a drug to help people with chronic sleep problems.

Dairy Home Co Ltd, is expanding their product line and introduced "Bedtime Milk" almost a year ago after Pruitti Kerdchoochuen, managing director of Dairy Home, found research on how on high melatonin milk boosts better sleep. The milk is organically produced at night on a farm in Saraburi.

Finland was the first to produce high melatonin milk, followed by the UK. There are only two Asian countries which produce high melatonin milk - Japan and Thailand.

"We spent over a year and millions of baht in research, with the help of the Industrial Technology Assistance Programme, Suranaree University of Technology, to find the best way to produce this milk. The amount of melatonin in our bedtime milk is about four to six times higher than normal milk, while research show that only three times the amount is enough to help consumer sleep better," said Pruitti.

He said after the launch of Bedtime Milk, their sales volume increased three fold. Customers are always pleased with the results after drinking the milk. "They said it helped them sleep better and they felt fresh in the morning," he added.

Initially, Dairy Home were targetting the elderly, but later found out that most the customers are office workers.
I usually buy bedtime milk from Tops Supermarket. The price per bottle is about 21 bath, quite expensive. So I only drink it when I have a hard time sleeping even though I like its taste, malt favored, it tastes better than normal low-fat milk. Based on my experience, I feel sleepy after drinking bedtime milk for one hour. However, I found out that the milk didn't work when I have caffeine in my body. I usually drink one coffee per day and this doesn't interrupt my sleeping pattern. But one time I drank two cups of coffee and I feel alert in the evening so I drank bedtime milk hoping that it can help me sleep but I can't sleep all night, I feel alert and got a headache. I think melatonin in the milk must be fighting with caffeine but caffeine finally won. So after that I've never drunk more than one cup of coffee per day.

Alternative Energy

Today, our world today is very hot because many humans use the energy from natural oil so much. the human have to use natural oil for vehicles,  to produce electricity, and the Industrial factory too, and nearly everything. Today’s very hot. So, do you know the reason behind it? I think the problem is the Greenhouse Effect. And are you think so?
Alternative Energy is of  two types, wasteful and circulation. the wasteful type Coal, Gases, Nuclear, Oil shale and Tar surds. The coal, it’s dangerous and causes very pollution in the air. And gases or LPG, we use in household for cooking, we use to replace the natural oil for cars. It raises the temperature. And the Nuclear power gives energy very much but its byproducts of such is very dangerous, contains radioactive materials which is harmful to the humans and the Nuclear power plants are mostly used in America, Japan, Russia and England. It due to the leakage in nuclear power plants in Japan, once it was badly was destroyed by natural disaster. Do you guys think it is good to build nuclear power plants in Thailand? For me, I fear about it because it’s very dangerous to our country.
Alternative Energy is the circulation type are solar, wind energy, energy from water, biomass, and  geothermal energy. Today, Thailand have solar cell and it is the biggest solar electrification systems in ASEAN. Because normally in Thailand the weather is hot,and solar systems are good to our world. The first with sun light  is used to produce electricity. And the wind energy or the wind turbine, in Holland and Germany have used it long time ago and they used it before Thailand. The wind turbine in Thailand is Hungcai Nakonsrithamar at the south of Thailand. They use it because want to use water for agriculture. It’s save natural resources, too. And You know the Biomass. It’s organic substance from nature such as chaff and palm garbage. We can make electricity from it. And we can use it in the household for cooking. And energy from water. We can use it from Water fall and Dam. When the water passes the turbine generators, and then it produces electricity. But it must be in line with systems of electricity authority. And the last one is the heat energy underground or we can call it geothermal energy. Thailand has got the heat fountains to 90 places. But just in one place. It is at Phang Chiang Mai. And geothermal energy in the world are Japan, north of America,  Philippines and Indonesia. They can use it by drilling into soil. And then inset the pipe, but it must be in line with systems, too.
If you love the world. Now! You have to begin to do something for this world.

The Harm of Being Vacillating

 Dear all friends,

I would like to you enjoy with the Buddhist fable (Chadok).  Besides enjoying, you will get good inspirations and moral precepts from this story.  This Buddhist fable may be more long for writing our blogs, but I would like you read it once for all, sorry, if your opinions aren’t resemble mine, I will be  very glad for your comments.  Thank you for the best all chadoks from http://www.kalyanamitra.org/chadok/mixchadok/mixchadok.html  which is supported my writing blog.

Please enjoy .…

In the former time, the city of Benares had a tradition of hanging the grass-made basket in the area of the residence for birds to build its nest.

A pigeon lived in the basket hanging in front of a kitchen. It flew out finding for food in the morning and came back to sleep in the evening. One day, a crow flew pass the kitchen, it smelt the aroma of freshly made food wafting through the air.

The crow felt like to taste the food made from the kitchen. It fluttered down to stand on a branch of a tree, thinking of a ploy to enter the kitchen and eat the food.
Then seeing the pigeon living in the basket hung at the front side of the kitchen, the crow got an idea.  It immediately schemed to use the pigeon to pave its way.
The next morning when the pigeon flew out for food, the crow went after it.
After flying for a while, the pigeon sensed that a crow has been going after him.  The pigeon,so, turned to ask the crow the reason of following along.
The pigeon felt suspicious about the crow’s response so he questioned the crow further. But the crow had all the ready answers.
Hearing the crow insisting so, the pigeon didn’t further argue. However, the pigeon could not help feeling dubious about the crow’s proposal. He, therefore, instructed the crow that…
That evening, the crow returned to the meeting point a bit earlier than the pigeon. He, then, pretended remonstrating about the pigeon’s late coming.
Then the pigeon flew directly into the kitchen followed by the crow. The chef, seeing the crow coming with the pigeon, thought the crow could be trusted and welcomed; so he hung another basket for the new comer.
From that day onward, both the pigeon and the crow went out together in the morning and  came back in the evening every day.

One day, a man brought plenty of meat and fishes to give to the millionaire, the master of the chef. The chef, then, hung them somewhere inside the kitchen.

When seeing the pigeon left the kitchen, the crow started looking for the opportunity to sneak into    the kitchen.
The chef finally caught the crow and plucked its entire feather. He then rub salt, powdered ginger and ghee all over its skin and threw the poor crow back into the basket.

In the evening, the pigeon came back. Upon seeing the plucked crow lay breathing very weakly with fatal pain, the pigeon knew that the crow was about to die.
The pigeon then thought to himself that after this incident, he could no longer feel safe of staying in the area of the kitchen because the crow had made the chef feeling distrusted. Danger could come to him any time. Therefore, he decided to look for the new place to live. As for the crow, it was left laying death inside the basket.

The reference of this story: The Jataka Book written by Phra Bhavanaviriyakhun.

The inspirations drawn from the story of this Jataka:

     1. We should develop a habit of training ourselves to be a steadfast person; do not allow our mind oscillating to the rise and fall of our own temperament. Whenever you set your mind to do any goodness, do it with unyielding spirit, or else, you are considered being good for nothing.
    2. In association with good friends, we should listen to their well-wished advices, considering it and taking it into practice.
    3. Once seeing our own shortcomings or any inappropriate behaviour, we should quickly make them up and develop the appropriate conducts to replace because if becoming our habit trait, it will be carried with us to the next rebirth.
    4. Those harming the individual who has given them the helping hand are considered being incomparably evil and contemptible. We should avoid befriending this kind of people.

  Thank you for attention.
